The tiny house movement has grown a lot in recent years and contributing to some of its recent popularity are tiny house TV shows and documentaries. I’ve listed the current ones available to watch and will be updating along the way. If you love looking at adorable tiny houses and enjoy watching TV and/or documentaries, check out what’s on the list below.
Tiny House TV Shows
Tiny House Hunters
HGTV’s Tiny House Hunters features people searching for a home to buy with the help of a real estate agent, and on this show, it’s specifically tiny houses. During the show’s 30 minutes, we see the tiny house hunters touring and critiquing 3 different homes and at the end of the show, they choose one to buy. Tiny House Hunters is an entertaining show and a way to see the different types of tiny houses on the market.
Tiny House, Big Living
Tiny House, Big Living airs on both HGTV and DIY and is about people who are ready to take the plunge into tiny house living and have decided to have their tiny house custom built. On the show, they meet with their builder and discuss what features they want in their home. They also go through the process of downsizing and at the end, we get to see the finished product. Additionally, we get a follow up after a few days or weeks to see how they’ve been enjoying their new tiny home.
Tiny Luxury is one of the newer shows about Tiny Homes and is also shown on both HGTV and DIY. This program features the fine work of the family owned business out of Oregon, Tiny Heirloom. Like the name suggests, these tiny home builders create luxurious tiny homes with all the bells and whistles.
Tiny House Hunting
FYI’s Tiny House Hunting is similar to HGTV’s House Hunters except that FYI’s version not only features tiny stand alone houses, but also features tiny condos, lofts, apartments and other creative tiny spaces on the market. So it essentially presents us with a wider range of small residences. Similarly to HGTV’s House Hunters, the home buyer works with a real estate agent and gets to choose between 3 tiny spaces.
Tiny House Nation
FYI’s Tiny House Nation is similar to HGTV’s Tiny House, Big Living in that it features people who are ready to take the plunge into tiny living by having a tiny home built. This show differs in that Zack Griffin (Tiny Home Expert and builder) is the one who designs their tiny home. Some of the space saving solutions are amazingly creative and innovative. Another difference with this show is that they often have couples or families moving into the tiny home where one of the family members is reluctant to downsize or live in a small space. I do like this show although there was an episode where a couple gave away their cats as part of their downsizing. That rubbed me the wrong way, but the thing I do like about this show is that you get to see Zack Griffin’s creativity on display. This could inspire you for what you’d might like to have in your own tiny home.
Tiny House World
Tiny House World shows us people on the hunt for tiny houses outside of the US. I really like this show because it gives you an idea about the tiny house movement’s growth around the world. Tiny House World airs on FYI.
